Project Awesome
We got approval to paint one of the walls in the IT office with idea paint. We’ll soon be able to draw and diagram till our hearts content! We put the primer on last night. Look at that straight line at the top!
We will post the final product once it’s painted, dried, and cured.
My Cluster is bigger than yours
We’ve progressed at the datecenter to where we have all the networking just about completed. That means we can begin working with the ESX servers. We currently have 6 hosts, and this is only at the primary location. There will be some a redundant set at an alternate location with SAN replication between the two eventually.
I just wanted to post and brag. You can see half a terrabyte of ram, and 72 processors ![]()
I’m not a Swedish Chef
We both woke up feeling under the weather this morning, so we slept in a bit. When we woke up, we made some coffee and moved onto breakfast. I thought taquitos sounded good, so I started making the eggs, and hashbrowns while my wife made the bacon.
I stepped out of the kitchen for 2 minutes, and when I came back, I was presented with the burned cinders that were my hashbrowns ![]()
Next time I’m going to just get out the deep fryer.
Team Awesome
Last week I posted our rack of horrors. This week, handling our current work load, with the addition of all of our old IT managers workload, and a complete rack retrofit, we were able to completely recable the rack into something totally showable and professional.
It took long hours, in cramped quarters, in each others space, bumping into each other constantly…. and yet we still had a good time. That’s cause I work with Team Awesome!
After picture for your enjoyment:
Oy Vey.
So… I’m not very impressed with Dell Secureworks network installation :/
Our current IT team has started recabling this horror show while Dell figures out what it wants to do. We should have it fixed before the end of the week when I’ll post some after shots.
And then there were four…
We got notice on Sunday that our boss, the IT Director had a family emergency and as a result would not be returning to work, ever. Being in the middle of a big project, that changes things a bit but is not the end of the world. Things are still moving ahead without skipping a beat. Our major concern though, was who will sign our PTO requests?
I give you IT Director 2.0. We have the technology to rebuild him. Faster. Stronger. The speech bubble says “Your PTO request is approved!”
First annual FH 5k
I ran in a 5k today. It was just a small group of friends down at Foster park by TCU. It was a lot of fun, and for someone being as out of shape as me, I did pretty well. Definetly want to do it again. I recorded my run with my phone… stats are below. We have some more pictures that were taken as we were running, which I’ll update as I get them.
As promised... Here are the pictures:

The front fell off
I got home a little early on Wednesday… I thought I’d get my grass cut, then relax for the remainder of the evening… I was so wrong.
After mowing the front and back, I put the lawnmower up and went inside, closing the garage door as I walked into the house. About a half hour later, I go back into the garage and notice the garage door didn’t come down all the way. Further inspection revealed that the garage door opener had ripped itself off the wall, and was sitting on top of my car.
What should have been a 30 second repair took 45 minutes…. All I needed to do was put the piece of wood back up in its place and use some longer lag bolts but noooooooooooo…. the battery on my cordless drill was dead ![]()
A quick trip to lowes later, I fixed it with my new corded dewalt drill. It took like 2 minutes tops. Below is a picture of the handiwork… yes the board is crookeod, but you can see how the lag bolts line up with the stud ![]()
Fall weather
It’s finally Fall, or at least it feels like it. It got kind of warm this weekend, but then cooled down last night. Tab and I woke up to a crazy amount of fog in our back yard. I took this picture on my way out of the driveway this morning:
